This is actually the remains of one of many poles which held wire rope in place. They were placed across Cullen Bay during WWII as the bay was a prime candidate for a landing invasion by Nazi Germany. The wires were to slow down the enemy on their way up the beach while the Allies laid down defensive machine gun fire.
